Artios Pharma is currently recruiting a Senior Principal Bioinformatics Scientist to join our expanding team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a world class research team in a dynamic, expanding biotech company based south of Cambridge, UK. Artios is focused on identifying and developing cancer treatments by exploiting novel targets within the DNA damage response (DDR), a scientific area of high expectation following the success of PARP inhibitors in the clinic.
The company is actively working on an exciting portfolio of unique DNA repair projects. We currently have two programmes in early phases of clinical development. These phase 1/2a studies are evaluating the small-molecule ATR inhibitor ART0380 and the first-in-class Pol -Theta inhibitor ART4215 in patients with advanced or metastatic solid tumours.
Outline of the role:
The Senior Principal Bioinformatics Scientist will design, manage and execute analyses across a range of different projects, typically involving large-scale datasets ‘omics datasets, and ensure delivery of accurate results in a timely manner. They will have key leadership roles within the Bioinformatics and Omics Sciences team, driving strategies on capability build and adoption of innovative technologies and methods.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Project management and execution of analyses of key Artios clinical and translational datasets.
- Supporting the Director of Bioinformatics and Omics Sciences in the delivery of key results packages and data summaries/visualisations to relevant stakeholders.
- Technical leadership of large-scale ‘omics and integrative analysis, including driving adoption of new technologies/methods/tools.
- Providing guidance on experimental design of new datasets being generated at Artios.
- Establishing strong relationships with key collaborators, vendors and CROs as well as internal Artios stakeholders and colleagues.
- Identifying and driving new strategies of data generation and analysis to help achieve Artios objectives across various spaces including drug target identification, biomarker identification and validation, patient selection and stratification strategies.
- Assume key leadership roles in the Bioinformatics and Omics Sciences team, including supervision, mentorship and coaching of other team members.
Qualifications/Experience:
Essential
- Post graduate degree in bioinformatics, oncology, computational biology, statistics, data science, human genetics or any other relevant scientific discipline.
- Significant work experience (at least 5 years) in the oncology/cancer space.
- Significant skills and experience of analysis and interpretation of cancer ‘omics data (particularly genomics). Variant/ CNV calling, variant annotation and interpretation.
- Experience of working with TCGA/ICGC/PCAWG and other publicly available cancer datasets.
- Statistical programming, data manipulation, analysis and visualisation using R/Bioconductor/Shiny. Working in command line environments (Linux/UNIX).
- Demonstrable ability in project management, delivery to agreed timelines and working on multiple projects.
- Enthusiasm to learn and drive new technologies/ methods.
Desirable
- Experience in an industrial (pharma/biotech) setting.
- Project management accreditation.
- Experience of liquid biopsy data (e.g. ctDNA).
- Clinical informatics accreditation.
